these were great days to be on tour with the band.... having said that I loved these shows ,how exciting it was night after night. 1984 is one of those

years we were treated to many great shows . Of course people can say Jerry was strung out on junk. So were so many on tour , sadly it is what it is. I being 1 of them.
These shows sound like a garage band playing for there friends. Which is exactly what it was.. Sound is good and selection is off the wall a bit but that's the reason we loved them. Never knowing what each nite would bring.

Most heads will say the one time cover of Get Back in 87 is the single worst performance of a cover tune the band has ever done. I would say any performance
...
of WDWDIITR is even worse. brutal. Nice odd ball selection other wise. not as good as other shows in this run but not bad.

Turn it up loud (best with a good set of headphones) and prepare to lose your mind. The rest of the show is top drawer too. Not a bum note in the whole

An insane Cumberland
Phil is a monster on the low end and Jerry is flying.

listen in a while to this so I might be confusing with the night before ? but the improvisation was kind of like Mind Left Body Jam I think ? I can still see Jerry standing there doing that descending progression in dark red lights, in my mind !

I only made it to Holloween but I've enjoyed the tapes from all the shows. What really stands out for me is the amazing quality of the audience recordings

that have been in wide circulation all these years. Considering that BCT has some troublesome spots in the auditorium for sound, I'm pleased to say that the "authorized" taping section isn't one of them. To be honest, I haven't heard any boards from these gigs. I've been content with the great auds. This final show is hot, perhaps a notch below the previous night. The overlooked gem in the run is the 30th. Download all 6. It's well worth it.

This was the last of six incredible shows at the incredible Berkeley Community Theater. Very few repeats this run and lots of break out. I didn't think

anything could have topped yesterday's show but we were treated to more surprises and a rocking show. Weir had a new blues cover and we got a hot Gloria, Phil tried to ease it into Lovelight but that surprise was saved for later. Why Don't We Do It In The Road was Jerry's version (versus Phil's version) and the band never got the riff down and the song fell apart but it was still nice to hear. After drums we got an Uncle John's and then the first west coast Mr. Fantasy and a Lovelight. Great ending to a great run of shows.
